Allow the AI to automatically unsubscribe customers from Attentive SMS and email marketing when they request to opt out.

Overview

The Attentive marketing channel enables the AI to process customer unsubscribe requests directly from customer conversations. Once enabled, the AI can remove customers from Attentive SMS or email marketing without requiring a support agent to manually complete the request.

Note: This integration supports unsubscribe requests only. Attentive does not allow third-party applications to subscribe or re-subscribe customers to marketing.


Before You Begin

Before enabling Attentive, ensure:

  • An Attentive OAuth application has been created and configured.

  • You have administrator access to both your Cavalry Merchant Admin and Attentive account.


Enable the Attentive Channel

  1. Log in to the Cavalry Merchant Admin:

  2. Navigate to AI Agent → Channels:

  3. Scroll to the Marketing section.

  4. Locate Attentive and click Enable.

  5. Complete the Attentive OAuth authorization flow by signing in to your Attentive account and approving the requested permissions.

  6. After the authorization is complete, you will be redirected back to Cavalry and the Attentive channel will be enabled.


How It Works

When a customer requests to stop receiving marketing communications, the AI automatically determines which Attentive subscription to update based on the customer's identifier.

For example:

  • A customer requesting to stop receiving text messages will be unsubscribed from Attentive SMS.

  • A customer requesting to stop receiving promotional emails will be unsubscribed from Attentive Email.

No additional configuration is required.


Already Unsubscribed?

If the customer is already unsubscribed from the requested marketing channel, the request is still treated as successful.

This allows the AI to confirm the unsubscribe without generating an error if no active subscription exists.


Limitations

The Attentive integration currently supports:

  • ✅ Unsubscribing customers from SMS marketing

  • ✅ Unsubscribing customers from email marketing

The following actions are not supported:

  • ❌ Subscribing customers to SMS or email marketing

  • ❌ Re-subscribing customers who have previously opted out

Customers who wish to opt back in must do so through your standard Attentive opt-in process.
